Giacomo Balla 'Mercury Passing Before the Sun' - 1914

Giacomo Balla

"In this painting Balla attempts to project the entire futuristic thoughts of the universal dynamics in the cosmos. It is a vision of the universe with large circular movements of the astral systems, crossed by swirls, radiation and force fields. It is an attempt to synthesize the perception of reality, by which speed and modern understanding of nature, is much more involved than in the past and which also involve the non-visible, from which futurism derives."- Werner Haftmann, Painting in the 20th century, Rotterdam 1965
