After Vantongerloo was wounded in World War I, he moved to Den
Haag in Holland where he met Jules Smalzigaug, the only Belgian Futurist. Smalzigaug
introduced him to Modern Art. In 1918 Vantongerloo signed the ‘DE STIJL’
manifest.
